Curing Winter Skin Blues

How to Cold-Proof Your Skin

Winter can be tough on your skin, bringing dryness, irritation, and those fine lines you’d rather keep hidden. As the seasons shift, so should your skincare routine. Whether you're just starting or already have your winter essentials ready, we’re here to help you refine your regimen. Follow our AM and PM routine to keep your skin smooth, hydrated, and radiant all season long. You might discover a few must-have swaps, staple items, or even a whole new lineup. Let’s dive into how to care for your skin morning, night, and even on those cozy weekends:

AM // Morning Routine

01 // Soothing Acid-Free Cleanser – Gently cleanse your skin with this velvety, foaming formula, made with decyl glucoside—a mild, plant-based ingredient often derived from corn. It effectively cleans without stripping away your skin's natural moisture, leaving it soft and hydrated

02 // Peptide-Rich Hyaluronic Acid Serum – Apply 2–4 drops to your skin to deeply hydrate and strengthen its natural barrier. This serum features Argireline, a standout peptide ingredient often called “Botox in a bottle,” for its ability to help smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with regular use.

03 // Overnight Renewal Moisturizer – Generously apply to your face and neck, letting your skin soak in its rich formula for a deeply hydrated, radiant finish. Packed with ceramides and cholesterol, this moisturizer works day and night to restore your skin’s barrier and lock in essential moisture.

04 // Clear Zinc Mineral SPF – Protect and hydrate with a nourishing layer of zinc-based sunscreen that features niacinamide, a form of Vitamin B3, which helps improve skin tone, reduce redness, and support your skin’s natural barrier.

PM // Evening Routine

01 // Clarifying Anti-Blemish Cleanser – In the evening, cleanse your skin with this deep-acting formula enriched with papaya enzymes to remove makeup, oils, and the day’s buildup of impurities. This step ensures your skin is perfectly prepped for layering your winter-ready skincare products.

02 // Peptide-Rich Hyaluronic Acid Serum – Repeat steps from AM.

03 // Overnight Renewal Moisturizer – Repeat steps from AM.

04 // Moisture Boosting Bamboo Mask - Go for an extra layer of cooling, soothing hydration featuring bamboo and aloe vera, allowing all the ingredients to soak in overnight while you sleep.  Gently rub in over the moisturizer for that dewy, glowy finish.

05 // Lip Rescue Balm – Keep your lips soft, smooth, and nourished all night with this powerhouse formula. Packed with skin-loving ingredients like sunflower seed oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, and cacao seed butter, it’s the ultimate hydration hero for your lips.

Weekend // Extras

Extra 01 // Exfoliating Multi-Acid Pads – During winter, it’s important to avoid over-exfoliating, as acids can exacerbate dryness. Dr. Renata suggests gentle, once-a-week exfoliation with these pads, featuring a 12% multi-acid blend for a radiant complexion. Use right after cleansing skin in the morning.  Preferably, use a gentle cleanser. Glycolic acid (5%) promotes skin renewal and brightness, salicylic acid (2%) unclogs pores and refines texture, and lactic acid (5%) smooths and improves overall skin texture. The result is clearer, smoother, and more glowing skin.

Pro Tip: In the winter, avoid using acid pads if you're already using an acid-based cleanser in the same session, as this can lead to over-exfoliation. Instead, opt for a gentle cleanser whenever you plan to using acid exfoliating pads to protect your skin from undue dryness.

Extra 02 // Aquaphor Ointment – A winter skincare essential, Aquaphor is an emollient that helps lock in moisture and promote skin healing. Apply it at night over your moisturizer to support skin renewal and recovery. If you're sensitive to petrolatum, Alba Jelly is a great alternative—it's a plant-based, petrolatum-free emollient that provides similar benefits.

Pro Tip: After applying an emollient like Aquaphor or Alba Jelly, avoid applying additional products on top, as they won't absorb properly. Instead, layer your serums, moisturizers, and hydrating ingredients first, then finish with the emollient to lock in moisture. Avoid applying emollient ointments to your eyelids or near eyelashes, as this can clog delicate glands and cause symptomatic lash congestion.

Winter skin requires consistent care and a thoughtful approach, but these simple steps can guide you in selecting the right products and ingredients to help protect and nourish your skin through the cold months.
